Feldenkrais
Is it something for me?

10 reasons to practise Feldenkrais method
Two classes per week at BYP
Thursday at 9.30h
Monday 19.30 in 2020

1) Body and Mind: you are One

Feldenkrais Method is a somatic approach that develops and increases self awareness through movement and perception. That’s why it involves both Body and Mind, your whole self, in the path of learning.

2) Attention and Curiosity: the fire of learning

Every lesson is different from the others. There are no repetitions or programs to follow. You are guided to explore the movement from your internal perspective, and your brain is always stimulated to discover something new, keeping your attention and curiosity widely open.

3) Less is more

During an Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lesson you learn how to reduce useless efforts for the movement, releasing unnecessary muscular tensions in your body and discovering how to become more and more efficient in your self-organization.

4) Go slowly, take a rest, respect yourself.

Life often demands us to be fast and to respect certain timelines. But we forget that our brain needs time and rest to learn. During a Feldenkrais lesson, you will be asked to slow down in order to be able to perceive more clearly how you are doing what you do, and then to rest very often, to give to your nervous system the time that it needs to elaborate the information. By doing so, you will get in touch with your personal needs and rhythms, respecting yourself with no hurry.

5) Present and Flexible mind

Being present and aware is the best way to be resilient, because it makes you able to cope with any kind of different situation. Thanks to Feldenkrais method, you enrich your ability to perceive, sense, feel, think. You turn off your autopilot to be here and now, developing your creativity, sensitivity, empathy, flexibility.

6) Joy and pleasure of moving and learning

We are taught to sacrifice and work hard to achieve what we want. But then we lose the beauty of discovering and doing things just for pleasure. With Feldenkrais, you look for the comfortability and pleasure of what you are doing, with no need to show or achieve anything but your own wellbeing.

7) Reduce the pain

In the lesson, you are always invited to respect your feelings, avoiding pain or discomfort. If you are already suffering from pain due to dysfunctional posture, injuries or a particular disease, you will learn how to “use better yourself” in order to reduce or eliminate pain.

8) Brain-gym

Even if you move, a Feldenkrais lesson is not a classical gymnastic.

Movement is used as a tool to discover more about yourself and the only thing that you are actually exercising is your brain. Through movement, explorations, visualisation and imagery, you create new neural connections, stimulating your nervous system to learn and improve. (That’s why Feldenkrais is really useful for people who suffer from diseases that affect nervous system i.e. fibromyalgia, Parkinson, etc).

9) Be responsible for your own wellbeing

A teacher can guide you in the learning path, but only you know what is the best for yourself.

10) Freedom

Moshé Feldenkrais used to say: “If you know what you do, you can do what you want” .

By paying attention to the quality of what you do, you will discover different ways of doing it, enriching your empowerment and freedom.
